Cinema Notes: The Muppets

Oh, the crushing disappointment. I hate to be all Waldorf and Statler, but The Muppets is a thoroughly mediocre film. Lazy scripting, shabby construction and awkward performances doom this occasionally charming work of nostalgia. This is a depressing case of ingenious marketing outshining its product. And as for the film’s gluttonous, inexplicable peppering of celebrity cameos, well, let’s just say this is the Thin Red Line of Muppet movies.

Also . . . wrong-sounding Muppets.
